Highlights of 2017

I HAVE OFTEN SAID, “The past is a wonderful place to visit, but it is a terrible place to live.” With that in mind, I want to “visit” some of the highlights of 2017. It has been a great year, but it will be over in two weeks. So, join me for a walk down memory lane.

WE BEGAN THE YEAR with prayer. 2017 was “The Year of Prayer”, and many of us ushered the new year in with a season of prayer in the Worship Center. I began the year with a series of messages on prayer. The theme of prayer continued throughout the year. We had a week of prayer before Super Sunday, Easter Sunday, Vacation Bible School, and the Jacksonville Christmas Celebration. We had a Prayer Conference in March that was led by Rick Shepherd. I thank God for a praying church!

WE HAD SPECIAL DAYS and special guests throughout the year. Super Sunday, God & Country Day, and Harvest Day were great days. The Presley family was here for Sanctity of Human Life Day and shared their amazing story. Two of my heroes, Jerry Vines and Junior Hill, were with us for a Sunday. Charles Billingsley blessed us with a concert on the Friday night before Easter. We hosted concerts by Big Daddy Weave, LifeSong, Josh Wilson, and several of our own musical groups.

WE HAD AN UNEXPECTED GUEST named Irma show up in September! The church was shut down the weekend of September 10 because of her. The offices were closed on Friday and Monday, but I was able to bring a brief message on Sunday via the internet.

WE HAVE SEEN PEOPLE SAVED all year long. People have been saved at events like Vacation Bible School, Summer Camps, Judgement House, and the JCC. People have been saved during our worship services. All in all, it has been a great year and I thank the Lord for hearing our prayers!
